Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect........Just Perfect
Mike Oldfield's pinnacle of musical expression. Period. Deliberately paced, superbly orchestrated, brilliantly performed, and powerfully passionate. Mike Oldfield reached new heights on this album, and I remember being blown away when it came out - I nearly wore out the 4 sides of the double LP (and drove my college roomates crazy doing so). To this day, I listen to the entire album nonstop, as it deserves. The Song To Hiawatha part, with Maddy Prior, is especially ethereal, and the finale is ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Epic Soundtrack to Realms of Fantasy and Magic
Originally released in December of 1978 "Incantations" saw a rejuvenated Mike Oldfield emerge after three years of relative silence, no longer the sombre, shy, and introverted young musician. He was ready to head into the punk wars, with his greatest weapon shining bright; his music. The romantic windswept cover saw a clean cut, short haired Oldfield brimming with new found confidence and musical ideas. Some could argue that the controversial therapy treatments he went through in the preceding ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Incantations- Surely one of the finest musical creations ever
The title of this review says it all. Mike Oldfield is one of the world's greatest musicians, and I see Incantations as among his brightest works. If my opinion counts for anything, Incantations should go down in human history as one of the finest musical creations in all of history. I think people will think so for ages and ages.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If You Know Oldfield, Then Add This to Your Collection; If Your Are Just Exploring a New Sound, Then Definitely Try It
If you're reading this, I will assume that you fall into one of two listener categories: either you already are familiar with Mike Oldfield's music and are wondering (if you don't already own it) whether this album is worth buying or, you simply are looking to expand your musical listening options by trying somethng different. For those familiar with Mike Oldfield, I will state up front that this review is not directed at you: you already have your opinions as to which Mike Oldfield albums are ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good but repetitive
When this album came out, it was a double LP. It probably should have been condensed into one album. This release has some of the best sections of Oldfield music in existence, mostly contained in Parts 1 and 3. Many other parts of the album are, however, very repetitive and grate. The Song of Hiawatha poem in part 2 is quite nice but, once again, goes on too long. This CD is certainly worth picking up, if nothing else for the first and third parts. Even these are repetitive in places, however. ... Read More
