Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
"Fantasy" provides the only real transcendent chapter on this album. Reinterpreting Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" with a percolating dance beat, the single emphasizes everything that makes Mariah Carey great. Her voice swoops, squeals, and careens over the seductive rhythm, while the words capture just the right amount of vulnerability and determination. Unfortunately, the thrill is short-lived, as the multiplatinum singer soon falls back into typical adult-contemporary schlock and pointless vocal gymnastics, particularly on "Melt Away" and the bombastic cover of Journey's "Open Arms." --Aidin Vaziri

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Height Of Mariah Carey's Vocal Artistry
Unfortunately, shortly after this album, Carey began lowering herself to the standards of the popular music industry, and at that point, the focus was on sampling, beats and perfect sound.

In this album, the diva is an artist. Her phrasing, her sensitivity in expressing each phrase is masterful. Why, oh why, can't she return to this level?

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Dreamy Music
Very good CD but I prefer the dance versions of Mariah music better. Sometimes her albums are a bit slow and I wish she would pick up the pace a bit. She is capable. I know she can do it. Anyway, Mariah is pretty awesome...I love her!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Feels like I'm dreaming, but I'm not sleeping
After Music Box was released a couple years earlier, it did not seem Mariah Carey could have anymore huge releases. But despite the fact that it seemed her career peaked at that point, she topped herself again, with this, one of her best albums.

1. Fantasy- A fabulous uptempo track that is easy to escape in. A

2. Underneath The Stars- A beautiful love song that is simple, yet sweet. Makes you feel like a young teenager in love. A

3. One Sweet Day- This ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - She's always been the "Total Package"
From the first time my ears heard her voice...i was in love with this talented diva like, American Musical Treasure. This is truly one of if not the best Mariah Carey Albums of all. I am a firm believer in the notion that some songs or artists should NOT be re-recorded...however Mariah does an excellant job of owning, even if only for this album, "Open Arms"...of course the original being from Steve Perry and Journey. There's Something about Mariah and the lyrics "Lying Beside Me"..."one Sweet Day" ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This is Mariah on point. Definitely her best album.
It has some pop (Fantasy, Always Be My Baby), some R&B (Melt Away, Long Ago) and even some dance music (Fantasy, Daydream Interlude). From start to finish I can seriously listen to this CD. While Long Ago is the weakest track here, it doesn't make for a bad song. It just sounds a bit outdated.

My favorites are:

Underneath The Stars (one of the most powerfully-lulling melodies I've ever heard in mainstream music...)
Fantasy
Open Arms
I Am Free
When I Saw ... Read More
