His love for Calpernia Addams, a beautiful transgendered nightclub performer was misunderstood by fellow soldiers and eventually leads to his brutal death. The outstanding performances by Lee Pace and Troy Garity will draw you into this emotional and powerful film. Amazon.com: Cable networks like Showtime are diving into risky material that mainstream movie-makers shy away from--and Soldier's Girl demonstrates the payoff of such risks. Barry Winchell (Troy Garity, Barbershop), new to an infantry base in Tennessee, gets taken to a nightclub for drag performers by an obnoxious fellow soldier, Fisher (Shawn Hatosy, Outside Providence). There he meets Calpernia (Lee Pace), a transgendered performer, and feels an immediate attraction. But as Winchell's relationship with Calpernia develops, his relationship with the repressed Fisher grows dangerous to his career in the military--and possibly to his life. Based on a true story, Soldier's Girl tackles its delicate subject matter directly but respectfully, with compassion and intelligence. Garity, Pace, and Hatosy all turn in compelling, complex performances, steering clear of stereotypes. Director Frank Pierson (screenwriter of Dog Day Afternoon) skillfully avoids easy answers or obvious solutions and was deservedly nominated for an Emmy as a result. --Bret Fetzer Average Rating:

It was a great love story with a tragic ending. I was so moved by the cast in this film the acting was great they really brought the pain to life. I feel this movie is in the same category as "Boys Don't Cry." Just excellent and both are based on true stories. It's a must see... Rating: - Soldier's GirlLove the film. Well written, directed and acted. A sad film that took my group by surprise and made everyone cry at the end. And we're adults! Shows the evils of homophobia and, in general, incorrectly judging a book by its cover. Should be viewed by mature teens. Rating: - A MUST HAVE!!!!I fell in LOVE with this movie and story. I got this movie out of the mailbox and watched it later on the same night! I wasn't familiar with this story and now I am SO moved by this real life tragedy. Some people can be vicious, vindictive and cruel....This is a must see and must have movie. If you're reading this, BUY IT TODAY!!!!!!
