Description:
I Am David is adapted from Anne Holm's internationally acclaimed novel North to Freedom. It is the story of a 12-year-old boy, David, who escapes a Communist concentration camp with little more than a compass, a sealed letter, a loaf of bread, and instructions to carry the letter to Copenhagen, Denmark. David is thrust into the free world for the first time in his young life as he travels across Europe. It is a spiritual voyage of discovery, where David slowly loses his instinctual mistrust of humanity and begins to smile, share, trust and ultimately, love. I Am David addresses the cruelties, politics, and suffering of warfare while celebrating the resilience of youth and the unbreakable spirit of a child.

I read the book when I was 12 and it made a huge impression on me. I recently reread the book with my children and we were really excited when we saw that this video was available. We enjoyed the video but was not as impressed as we could have been - acting a bit weak - not a patch on the book - but then that is usually the case when one reads the book first. I Am David was one of the first films produced by the newly formed, family-oriented production company, Walden Media. In my opinion, it is still one of their best to date. Based on the novel by Anne Holm, it is the story of a boy (Ben Tibber) who is separated from his family in post-WWII, communist Bulgaria, and has to grow up in a concentration camp helping to break rocks all day. The product that I received is in great condition however, it didn't come as quickly as I expected. Would recommend using again.

- This is my kind of movie!
If you watch this movie and don't like it ~ you might check your pulse because obviously you have no heart. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen! Perfectly done! I happened across it one day on satellite and 3/4 of the way through the channel went out ~ I was devistated. I finally got the movie and my entire family sat down and watched it and loved it. This would be a perfect movie to show to children at school.

This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen. How ever, the DVD should have a booklet, and perhaps subtitles in English.
