Topo USA/Earthmate PN-20 Map Exchange Overview DeLorme has pre-cut U.S. multi-state regions within the included Topo USA software. This allows you to update the world base map on the GPS with more detailed routable U.S. highway and major roads for your region(s) of interest. This design maximizes user-available, on-device internal memory for even more detailed topographic maps and imagery you cut from Topo USA of your precise areas of interest. The Eastern 1(A) multi-state region, as an example, requires 12 MB, with a total of 75 MB available on the device. These precut regions are located in the left window of the Handheld Exchange dialog, which is also where your map packages, waypoints, and tracks will be stored once created.  Rating:  - Great hand held GPSr! I love it for hiking!The Earthmate PN-20 has exceeded my hopes and expectations. We bought it for use while hiking and are not dissapointed at all! It can do so much that it will probably take us quite awhile to learn it all. The maps are much better than Garmins and the low price of downloading more is a even more of an advantage. While it is too slow for my taste in redrawing the maps for use in a vehicle, for hiking and biking it is more than what we need. Besides, with a screen as small as handhelds have, I wouldn't ... Read More Rating:  - Earthmate GPSMy Earthmate GPS works great. The only thing I would change is the USB plug on the devise. It sometimes fails to make good contact and needs to be cleaned befor connection. I also would like to have control over the device odometer so I can match it up with the actual miles I have on my bike. Rating: - Hidden capabilitiesA most versatile product for handheld use. I have navigation in my car and a low cost Garmin nuvi I use for driving when using rentals, but for all other uses this unit is substantially more complex in capabilities and benefits. Excellent screen fully visible in full sunlight. Also, the unit will use SDHC cards up to 32 GB. I confirmed this with Delorme customer support before trying it. Rating:  - GPS device is decent, software isn't.I have been using Delorme software since Street Atlas 4.0 (1996) and their Earthmate GPS devices since they were released- unfortunately the software interface has barely changed since then and it's difficult to use when compared to much more intuitive mapping software like Google Maps/Earth, Microsoft Live Maps, and Mapquest. In fact after buying Street Atlas 2007 last year and a car with a GPS built in I figured I would probably never buy or need Delorme software again... but then I picked up a boat... ... I have also been quite unhappy with other GPS devices like Garmin and TomTom, so I decided to try the PN-20.
