Not pleased March 4, 2010 kbit (texas) This book should be titled "How to put on Makeup". It is so basic, who doesn't know how to do a smoky or glam eye. The rest of it is just basic, I was very disapointed and I didnt learn anything new.
A real disappointment February 25, 2010 a reader (Washington, DC) I decided to purchase this after the rave reviews I read here but I found this book to be a real disappointment. The instruction is extremely generic and too basic: there are no insider tips or in-depth analysis of any kind despite the 221 pages! Some of the featured looks are great, but a lot of the makeup looks somewhat slapdash and gaudy. For example many of the model's eye concealer is too light, so much so that they appear too have white rings underneath their eyes. Some of the eye makeup is seriously questionable as well, with very visible lines of demarcation and very little blending. I was really shocked and I plan to return this item.
not a very informative book...... January 30, 2010 Sandra A. Greco 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was too simple. Wish I hadn't purchased. I was looking how to do smokey eye and other techniques and the book just didn't deliver. Way too simple...............
Wonderful Book for Beginners January 25, 2010 Askanesthetician (Chicago, IL) I bought this book because I was looking for a book that would not only tell me but also show with photos how to apply make-up properly. This book certainly lived up to my expectations. I have always wanted to learn how to do a smoky eye, and now I know how to properly do a smoky eye because of this book. The photos are great but so are the explanations. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn how to apply make-up. I think the book may be too simplistic for someone who is not a make-up novice.
good help December 22, 2009 Kat (North Ga., United States) I am in my 50's and have been doing my makeup almost the same since I was a teen. This looks as if it will help me to really learn how to do things right, more needed in 50's then it was in teens and 20's...mistakes show up 3 times as much now. I got one for my daughter, in her late 20's, also. Good to help her learn the basic's then she can do whatever on top of that.
I have looked at other so called makeup books in the past and they may have had a page or two that really showed something but did not really help you learn makeup. I wish this one showed a bit more on the types of makeup now. Such as, I have found that light glitter or whatever it is, in eyeshadow or lipstick/gloss seem to help hid wrinkles, etc. but to much makes it worse.
