Sigh. July 29, 2010 J. Breese First off, let me say that I'm not a huge Jane Austin fan, nor am I a fan of most 'romantic' movies (because they suck!). But I absolutely adore this movie. For all you purists out there who complain it leaves too much of the details out, it's a movie not a mini-series. I also have the 4 disc BBC production, which is lovely, but who has time to watch 8 hrs. of movie on a regular basis? Visually this movie is stunning, and so is Kierra. It looked awesome in DVD and is even better in Blu-ray. It's a much 'fresher' version of the original, the actors are just as good (Mathew MacFayden is just as good a Mr. Darcy as Colin Firth, just different)and the photography will simply blow you away. Just a beautiful, beautiful film.
Best. Darcy. Ever. Period. July 25, 2010 snow (MD USA) No, really, and I've seen them all. Of course this is my learned opinion so read at your own risk. Keira Knightly - excellent. Actually most of the cast (sorry Bingley was rather odd) was terrific.
Indeed, I'm one of those dedicated little P&J fans who has the book memorized. I can say with all true feeling that Matthew MacFayden is better then the Darcy version that's lived in my head for the last 30 years.
And that's sayin' somethin'. :)
Dreadful Menu Display July 20, 2010 Jaime A. Rantanen (Florissant, MO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a review of the 2010 blu ray release. I also own this movie on DVD, but decided to upgrade when the blu ray went on sale. All I can say is I am glad I did not pay any more for the blu ray. The title menu is a disaster. The graphics and sound effects annoyingly remind one of powerpoint templates. Who wants to feel like they are in the middle of a conference when watching a movie? Whoever orchestrated the menu is not an artist, which stands in obvious contrast with the film. I would recommend waiting for the next blu ray release, if you are simply upgrading from DVD to blu ray. Yes, the menu is that annoying!!! The film itself is excellent and keeps me from deducting more than 1 whole star.
Disappointed June 26, 2010 Barb 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I admit I am a fan of the longer and older version. I did buy this edition in Bluray and never saw it in any other format. I did not like the seting at all. Mr. Bennett must have had some income since he was worried about it all being entailed. I cannot picture a pig wandering through the hallway etc. The acting was very good but I missed some of the detail in the longer versions ability to get to know the characters better. I think except for lydia and Darcy this was an excellant casr wasted on a mediocre script and poor staging.
pride and predjudice 2005 version June 25, 2010 dreamer 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have listen to the recorded book, I saw the 6 hr. version and even though it was kinda neat to see Lizzie and Darcey get married etc. I truly loved the 2005 version, and I didn't mind the extended ending because it would have seemed to have been a to abrupt ending otherwise. I can watch it over and over and over. There wasn't anything I disliked about it, and everyone that I've encouraged to see it have really enjoyed it.
